05 // Required before class
Windows + macOSShow up ready to build.
Install the tools, connect the services, open the starter vault, and use the checklist to catch problems before the workshop begins.
Readiness // 0 of 12
Bring a working system—not installation problems.
Final step // Prove it works
One prompt verifies everything.
Checkboxes can lie. This test can't: if Cowork can read your vault and tell you the code word, then Claude Desktop, Cowork, and the starter vault are all working together.
- 01Open Claude Desktop and switch to Cowork.
- 02When Cowork asks which folder to work in, choose your extracted Greys-Intro-to-AI-Starter-Vault folder.
- 03Paste this prompt and send it:
Read the file Efforts/Grey's Intro to AI/Setup Check.md in my starter vault and follow the instructions inside it.
Expected result
Cowork replies with the code word, the folder it found the file in, and a confirmation that you're ready. When it does, check off the final item above. That was also your first real agentic task—the same pattern the whole class is built on.
If it fails
- • Cowork can't see the file: you probably selected the wrong folder. Pick the extracted vault folder itself, not the ZIP or its parent.
- • The vault is still a ZIP: extract it first, move it somewhere permanent, then reconnect.
- • Cowork doesn't appear: update Claude Desktop and confirm your Claude Pro plan is active.
- • Still stuck: message Grey before class—the first eight minutes are a check, not a repair window.
